In the shadowy corners of history, there are whispers of a secretive organization that stands vigil against the unseen horrors lurking in the dark. They call themselves The Abberline Foundation. Founded in the aftermath of the infamous Whitechapel murders, this clandestine group has operated outside the bounds of law and government, protecting humanity from threats too terrifying for the average person to comprehend.

Origins:

The Abberline Foundation traces its roots back to the grisly events in Whitechapel in 1888—the same brutal killings that made Jack the Ripper a name etched in infamy. After the murders, Inspector Frederick Abberline, one of the lead investigators, disappeared from public life. Rumour has it, he joined forces with a mysterious figure known only as Aldwych, a man—or perhaps something more—whose origins remain as elusive as the shadows themselves. Together, they formed The Abberline Foundation, dedicating themselves to investigating and combating the supernatural, the Eldritch, and threats from beyond the stars.

Notable Incidents:

The Abberline Foundation is rarely seen and even less often acknowledged. Their presence is only hinted at in the most extraordinary events, often those shrouded in secrecy and steeped in mystery. The most notorious of these was the Inferno of Horsell Common. On a cold night in 1898, a fire ravaged the area, drawing the attention of locals who reported strange lights and sounds before the blaze. Eyewitnesses claim they saw shadowy figures—presumed to be members of the Foundation—removing something from the site, something not of this world. The site was immediately sealed off, and any mention of the incident quickly vanished from public records.

The Rebel Connection:

The enigmatic Aldwych, co-founder of The Abberline Foundation, has been linked to another mystery that has baffled Agarthia’s truth-seekers for years: The Rebel. Aldwych is said to precede the sightings of The Rebel, as if his presence signals that The Rebel is soon to follow. Some believe that Aldwych and The Rebel share a deeper connection—possibly through time or even across dimensions. There’s speculation that Aldwych might even be guiding The Rebel, though to what end, no one can say.

The Shadowy Agenda:

The Abberline Foundation operates entirely off the grid, with no government ties and complete denial of their existence. Their influence is felt only in the aftermath of unexplainable events, where their work leaves no trace, and witnesses are left with little more than fragments of memory. Some theorise that the Foundation is humanity’s last line of defence against forces we can’t even begin to understand—forces that could destroy us if left unchecked. Others believe they might be hiding something far more sinister, perhaps even controlling the very threats they claim to protect us from.
